On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the African Union (AU), the Society for Threatened Peoples (STP) demands more commitment by the African Union regarding human rights and a better protection of civilians in a state of war. "The AU is still far from being a successful authority regarding the settlement of conflicts and the protection of the civilian population," said Ulrich Delius, the STP's Africa-expert, in Göttingen on Wednesday.

on May 21, Circassians all over the world commemorate the genocide committed against their peoples by the army of the Russian Tsar in 1864, when 1.5 million Circassians had been killed. After more than 100 years of war, Sochi was their last capital city. At that time, a lot of Circassians had been murdered in the area of Krasnaya Polyana.

On Wednesday, after a state of emergency was imposed in north-eastern Nigeria, the Society for Threatened Peoples (STP) called for more action to end impunity. "Since 1999, more than 14,000 people got killed in central and northern Nigeria due to religious, ethnic or politically motivated violence. But not more than about 200 of those who were responsible have so far been held accountable in court," criticized the STP's expert on questions regarding Africa, Ulrich Delius.

Since January 2013, more than 331,000 people have fled from the violence in western Sudan. This was reported by the Society for Threatened Peoples (STP) in Göttingen on Friday. "While the International Community still believes in the idea of peace in western Sudan, the situation of the civilian population has grown a lot worse in many regions of eastern and southern Darfur," said the STP's Africa-expert, Ulrich Delius.

The Society for Threatened Peoples (STP) demands that Europe should provide more humanitarian aid for more than 440,000 civil war refugees in Mali. On Tuesday, the human rights organization recalled that, according to UN figures, only 28 percent of the required 315 million Euros have been provided.

The eight most important Christian parties in Pakistan called for a boycott of the parliamentary elections on Saturday. "The elections are violating the basic democratic rights of the religious minorities and are not worthy of a democracy," said the Asia-expert of the Society for Threatened Peoples (STP), Ulrich Delius, in Göttingen on Friday.
